10 Tips For Keeping Hydrated

1. Keep Hydrated

The human body is composed of 60-70% of WATER. The human body needs water to function properly as the fluids help promote healthy cells and organs. Make drinking water a habit. It’s very important when you eat to make sure to not drink water with your meals because it will dilute your digestive juices.

2. Replenish Electrolytes

Being physically active, we can sweat out important electrolytes and minerals found in our blood which regulate the water in our bodies. Sipping on sports drinks or coconut water helps maintain hydration during exercise because drinking plain water does not contain the electrolytes we need for replenishing our hydration.

3. Eat More Fruit

Many fruits contain electrolytes and fluids. Eating watermelon is a hydrating fruit made up of 92% of water. Each fruit differs in the number of electrolytes so it is important to drink water while eating fruit. Great fruits for refueling during exercise are bananas and dates because of the high levels of potassium and electrolytes they contain.

4. Look In The Toilet

Pay more attention to the urine color as it hits the toilet water. If the color of your urine is dark yellow it may indicate that you are dehydrated and need to drink more fluids. Drink more H2O during the day to increase healthy fluid levels.

5. Sweet & Salty Cravings

There are possibilities that you have an electrolyte imbalance or another mineral deficiency, or perhaps you are just addicted to sugar or salt. The more you eat the more you want it. However, one of the main causes of craving sweets is having low levels of magnesium. Sometimes craving salt is simply because of dehydration. Turn to eat healthy foods to stock up on magnesium by increasing your intake of spinach and whole grains, and by getting more omega’s such as avocados or nuts in your diet.

6. Carry A Water Bottle

A visual reminder to drink water will be a very helpful way to stay hydrated. Dehydration can be harsh on our hair and skin. Our hair can easily become brittle and our skin can wrinkle. Keeping a water bottle with you is a healthy way to support good habits. In return, your hair will shine and your skin will be more flourished.

7.  Invest In A Filtration System

Our water systems can be contaminated with microbes and chemicals. Even well water can be compromised. It would be wise to invest in a filtration system to ensure you’re getting the purest source of H2O with less contaminants. You could also find other smaller filter systems such as pitchers and faucet attachments, or if it is cost-effective for you, order purified water to be delivered to you.

8. Try Infusing Your Water With Juice or Flavor

If you do not like the taste of water you could squeeze lemon or lime juice into it by enhancing the flavors so it is more palatable. Lemons are also very good for regulating the PH levels in our gut. There are other flavors you could try adding like raspberries, strawberries, kiwi, cucumber, and even fresh mint leaves.

9.  Drink Tea

Hydrate your body by drinking caffeine-free teas. Drinking too much tea can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Dehydration can also be a cause of headaches and altered physical symptoms like dizziness. Water and caffeine-free tea consumption are equally hydrating.

10. Sleep

Drinking water and keeping hydrated before bed help to promote flushing our system of toxin removal. Drinking water before bed is very helpful for keeping hydrated as well as having water first thing when you wake up as it activates internal organs.
