Essential Oils Used For Shingles and Other Painful Nerve Conditions (2) There are several essential oils that contain analgesic properties, meaning they treat symptoms related to pain and inflammation. Others who are facing more difficult ailments can be treated holistically with the use of anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, or anti-spasmodic compounds.

Important:  Consult with your primary physician. Not recommended for those who have medical conditions, pregnant women, or nursing mothers.

Chamomile 

Chemical components of chamomile contain anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperglycemia, and anti- cancerous components. Contains many antioxidants that supports healthy joint function and reduces inflammation.

Lavender

Lavender essential oil has holistic effects on encouraging sleep quality, reducing anxiety and tension headaches. Packed full of anti micro-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and sedative properties that are helpful with reducing muscle pain, spasms, and joint pain.

Eucalyptus 

The plant has powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Eucalyptus oil can reduce symptoms associated with pain and allergies.

Peppermint

Peppermint oil that was applied topically had an almost immediate effect of relieving the pain associated with shingles.

Rosemary 

Rosemary is great for treating symptoms related to muscle aches and spasms with its antispasmodic and analgesic compounds.

Thyme

Thyme essential oils are containing anti-spasmodic compounds as it helps eliminate PMS pain, menstrual pain, and muscle aches.

Clary Sage

Calming and soothing oil that contains anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, compounds as it helps eliminate PMS pain, menstrual pain, and muscle aches.

Sandalwood

Has sedative properties that are helpful with reducing muscle pain, spasms, joint pain and nerve pain.

Ginger

Ginger naturally contains anti-inflammatory agents, as its known to be used for reducing symptoms related to rheumatoid arthritis.

Frankincense

Actively used for its sedative properties by aiding in the reduction of swelling.

Yarrow

Good for treating muscle spasms and muscle pain.

Wintergreen

This is widely used as a natural pain reducer and contains similar properties like aspirin minus the side effects.

Vetiver

This oil is good for reducing aches and pains and known to treat symptoms related to arthritis.

Helichrysum

This oil is used for a pain-killer and its anti-inflammatory agents. This is known to be used for relieving arthritis.

Juniper

Known to be used on nerve pain and reducing muscle aches and muscle spasms.

Camphor

Camphor naturally is an anti-inflammatory and has analgesic compounds. This oil is commonly used for its healing capabilities. Can be used on bruises, muscle aches, sprains, arthritis, and rheumatism.

Bergamot

Bergamot has the analgesic action can reduce nerve sensitivity. Naturally it contains the agents to reduce pain in a related area.

Where to apply?

  •  Use as topical by adding 2-3 drops of oil to your fingers and place onto temples, your sinuses, behind the ears, or at the base of the neck. The vapors will penetrate your skin and you will feel your senses lifted.
  • Can add to soaps, lotions, shampoos, conditioner.
  • Take an Epsom salt bath and add 4 drops oil in a hot bath and soak for about 15 min.

Caution: Keep out of the reach of children. Dilution only necessary for sensitive skin. For external use only. Keep away from eyes.

Carrier Oil: May need to use a carrier oil such as: Grapeseed oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, Fractionated coconut oil/coconut oil, or cocoa butter.

Botanical Name: Don’t buy oils from retailers that don’t provide the botanical name or country or origin.
